Rule Summary

How contested actions between two active characters (e.g. Stealth vs Listen, Grapple vs Dodge) are resolved.

Quick Reference Check:

Critical > Extreme > Hard > Regular > Fail. Ties broken by higher base skill value.
### Opposed Check Resolution When two characters directly oppose one another (e.g. an investigator sneaking past a guard, or an arm-wrestling contest), both parties roll: 1. Compare **levels of success**: - **Critical Success** beats Extreme Success. - **Extreme Success** beats Hard Success. - **Hard Success** beats Regular Success. - **Regular Success** beats Failure. 2. **Breaking Ties**: If both participants achieve the same level of success: - The character with the **higher base skill percentage** wins. - If both have identical skill percentages, they re-roll or the situation remains a stalemate.
